Rain forest peoples have many traditional beliefs and myths regarding animals. Some of them are briefly referred to in Part 2 of the poem. For example, in some traditional stories, certain kinds of monkeys turn into humans and thus start the human race. What animal myths are students familiar with? What characteristics do students associate with different animals? Are these associations always scientifically accurate? Compare scientific and mythological explanations for the way animals and other natural phenomena are.
