If owl monkeys were named after the sounds they make, they might be called snake monkeys, since they hiss; or mouse monkeys, since they squeak; or dog monkeys, since they bark. But, since they are named after their looks and not their sounds, none of those will do. Then again, they are also called night monkeys since, like owls and unlike any other family of monkeys, they only come out after dark. But then again, they are also called douroucoulis. Which name do you prefer?
