Nanuq means polar bear in Inuktitut.
Polar bears may look cute and cuddly, but they are the deadliest of all bears--especially if you are a seal. They spend their winters wandering the Arctic ice shelves in search of seal breathing holes. When a seal pops its head up to breathe, the polar bear, blending in to the ice and snow, swats its dinner out of the water, onto the ice and into oblivion. When it eats, the polar bear's face turns beet-red -- with blood. So, after dinner, it takes a brisk bath in the polar sea.
